Squid-ink black. Warm and meaty on the nose, with notes of hung game and very ripe blackberry. Full, potent black fruit flavors; massive and muscular but also quite velvety and caressing. Consistent from start to finish. A wine with a very important future.
Impressive, although rustic is the 1997 Syrah Scrio, a dense, chewy, muscular wine with rough tannin, yet impressive concentration and purity. It should become more civilized with another 1-2 years of bottle age, and will last for 10-12 years. Bravo!
