Score 87/100 · Drink 2015-2017, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, May 2015

Grasso's 2004 Bricco Luciani offers good depth on the palate, but the aromatics are advanced. Dark red cherry, plum, earthiness, smoke and licorice add a measure of complexity, but the 2004 is unusually forward, with oxidative overtones that suggest it is fully mature.

Ten days on the skins and two years in new barriques. Modern, opulent fruit and oak – a clear modernist approach. Sweet, intense, impressive and dense and relentless. (WS)

Score 90/100 · Drink 2013-2019, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Dec 2007

The 2004 Barolo Bricco Luciani reveals a pretty, open nose that leads to a core of vibrant, red fruit, mint and sweet mountain herbs. This delicate, feminine Barolo offers excellent length and well-integrated tannins, although a slightly green quality detracts from its overall balance.
