The 2001 Clos de Vougeot has plenty of red berry, coffee and bacon fat on the nose that is a little rough around the edges. The palate displays good substance, as Arnoux’s wines have a propensity to do, but it lacks personality and soul, and needs more tension and complexity toward the finish, which just seems very orthodox. Drink now-2016. Tasted January 2014.

This was still very tough and more than a little tart. Perhaps it just needs more time? (JR)
Good medium red. Raspberry, licorice and a whiff of eucalyptus on the nose. Offers good texture but comes across as youthfully backward and medicinal today. The mintiness repeats on the palate. Finishes with slightly rustic, dry-edged tannins. Tough going today: give this five or six years of cellaring.
Red-ruby. Rather tight and inexpressive on the nose. Sweet and sappy in the mouth, with floral and herbal nuances to go with the black fruit and spice flavors. But in a distinctly tougher Clos Vougeot style, finishing with serious tannic spine. There's very good underlying sweetness here, but this Clos Vougeot will require a good six to eight years of bottle aging.
