Good bright medium red. Cherry, leather, smoke, minerals and mint on the nose. Supple and nicely delineated; possesses solid structure but not the creamy concentration of the best years for this bottling. Finishes with slightly dry-edged tannins and good length.

Fresh red fruits and spices are found in the aromatic profile of the medium to dark ruby-colored 2001 Savigny-Les-Beaune La Dominode. (Burgundy junkies searching for this vineyard on a map won’t find it unless they know that it is an administratively permitted second name for the Jarrons premier cru.) Light to medium-bodied, it has outstanding depth of fruit, concentration, and breadth. Copious black fruits can be discerned in its broad, intense core as well as in its lengthy finish. Projected maturity: 2004-2011. Bruno Clair, one of the only vignerons to own vines from Savigny-Les-Beaune in the south to Marsannay in the north, said “2001 was a nice year for the Cote de Nuits but a difficult one in the Cote de Beaune, a true vigneron vintage where conscientious vineyard work was essential.
