I loved the 2008 Château Fontenil, a pretty, elegant, seamless effort that’s drinking beautifully today. Its vivid ruby color is followed by a complex bouquet of blackcurrants, olive, spice, and underbrush notes. Medium-bodied, silky, and refined on the palate, it’s fully mature yet should keep nicely for another 7-8 years. It’s a beautiful wine.

(a 90/10 blend of merlot and cabernet sauvignon): Good bright red-ruby. Crushed blackberry and licorice pastille on the slightly liqueur-like nose. Dense and concentrated but a bit chunky and extracted. Not a particularly sweet style. Finishes with serious chewy, slightly dry tannins. I'd give this at least a couple years in the cellar in the hopes that some of the tannins will be absorbed.
A dense purple color is followed by sweet notes of licorice, fruitcake, incense, herbs and black fruits. Spicy, earthy and supple-textured, this sleeper of the vintage will offer delicious drinking over the next 7-8 years.
