Saturated red-ruby. Dark berries, licorice and spicy oak on the nose. Juicy and tightly wound, with firm acids framing the intense dark berry and licorice flavors. A bit youthfully hard today, finishing with solid tannic spine and a slight dryness. A serious Rioja that needs at least a couple years of additional bottle aging.

The expensive, deep ruby/purple-hued 2002 Altos de Lanzaga exhibits a sumptuous bouquet of black raspberries, kirsch, plums, figs, white chocolate, and spicy oak. Medium to full-bodied, with loads of character as well as glycerin, and a heady finish, this modern-styled Rioja will drink well for 7-8 years. About the producer
In 1994, Telmo Rodríguez and Pablo Eguzkiza made their first wine together. This was the beginning of Compañía de Vinos Telmo Rodríguez, their joint project that looks to uncover the “real” Spain, working with old vineyards and indigenous varieties to recover the nation’s vinous heritage.
