A rather nice nose remicent of sloe gin. This is a big, juicy mouthfull. Obviously the fruit is on the dark end of the fruit spectrum but it is fresh and the tannin is fine.

Dark, rich, meaty cassis. Fine texture, spicy, a little leafy but deliciously fresh and alive. Broody, firm but all in place. Firm but fine-grained and some scent on the palate. This showed much better than en primeur – I may have scored it more highly as it was a contrast in style and balance to the preceding rather lack-lustre flight. I was certainly more generous than my fellow tasters. (JH)
One of this appellation’s finest second wines, the 2011 La Dame de Montrose offers attractive black cherry and black currant fruit, soft tannins, medium body and a silky personality. While it lacks concentration, it makes up for it with its charm and forward appeal. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.

Ch. Montrose is one of two Second Growths from Saint-Estèphe and one of the most consistent producers in Bordeaux. The wines from this property are both elegant and powerful, and some of the Médoc's most age-worthy .
