The 2004 Richebourg Grand Cru from Hudelot-Noëllat was tasted against the same from Grivot and I certainly prefer this. It is so much lighter in color than Grivot's, and the nose is elegant and self-contained, with touches of raspberry and Morello cherry that perhaps lacks some intensity because of the growing season. The palate is medium-bodied and nicely balanced, a nonchalant Richebourg that thankfully did not display any under-ripeness and greenness towards the mild-mannered finish. There is perhaps just a little austerity here, but otherwise this is a very decent Richebourg for the vintage, even if I do not consider it to be a long-term proposition.

Good bright red. Very flatteur on the nose, with almost exotic cherry and Oriental spice notes. Suave and fine-grained but also highly concentrated for the year, despite conveying a light touch. A silky, gently styled wine that also possesses firm acidity and grip. The underlying spine of the wine is easiest to see on the firm finish. In contrast to the Romanee-Saint-Vivant, says Munier, this wine was more masculine, and more musky and gamey, until a few weeks before my visit but now it's more feminine.
