The 2009 Baron de Brane has a light, slightly dusty bouquet that needs more fruit to come through. The medium-bodied palate offers dark plum, hoisin and gravelly notes and light tannin. The straightforward, soft finish suggests that this should be consumed in the near future. Tasted at the Brane-Cantenac vertical at the château .

The 2009 Baron de Brane is also a strong effort. Fashioned from a completely different blend (58% Merlot and 42% Cabernet Sauvignon) with higher alcohol (13.4%), it is a sexy, seductive claret meant to be consumed during its first 7-8 years of life. (Tasted once.)
Good sweet berry fruit, fragrant and ripe, fine linear elegance and harmonious finish. Drink 2013-18.
A ruby garnet colour. The nose displays a moderate intensity with bright red fruit with touches of undergrowth and tobacco. A smooth entry, a little sharpness from the acidity, the tannins quite supple and rounded though lacking some length on the espresso-tinged finish. Fine. Tasted March 2010
About the producer
Château Brane-Cantenac has been a consistent performer in the Margaux wine appellation since Henri Lurton took over the property, but thanks to replanting and investment in the last decade, quality has seen another sharp upswing.
