53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 18% Petit Verdot. 36.41 hl/ha. Harvested 25 September to 19 October. Deep, bright colour. Tight and firm on the nose. Perhaps a hint of graphite. Lifted and fresh as well. Dense on attack. Solid and austere. Big tannic frame behind. Seems incredibly backward. Bit of an enigma but can clearly age. (JL)

The 2008 Meyney has never really been an impressive wine aromatically, missing some fruit intensity on the austere nose, and a little enervated. The palate is better, with more fruit than the previous vintages, moderate density and a savory, slightly meaty finish. If only the bouquet had more to offer. Tasted at a vertical at Château Meyney.
The 2008 Meyney felt a little flabby on the nose compared to others tasted in this flight, lacking the detail and cohesion. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy black fruit, quite savory in style and missing some spine towards the drifting finish. Meyney can and does produce much better wines than this. Tasted blind. Very light nose and pretty dense. Not a pure song! A bit thick. Very dry, sandpapery finish. (JR)
