2001 Marojallia

Bright ruby-red. Currant, espresso and bitter chocolate on the nose. Sweeter and lusher than the 2002, with warm notes of tobacco and leather. Conveys an impression of lower acidity than the 2002. Finishes with slightly drying tannins but very good length.

Lively crimson. Relatively appetising. Thicker, more interesting nose than Clos Margalaine. Layers but very, very dry end. Hard work at the end. (JR)

This small garage operation is run by Jean-Luc Thunevin and his partner, Murielle Andraud. The deep purple-colored 2001 reveals a lovely perfume of acacia flowers, melted licorice, graphite, creme de cassis, and blueberries. Medium-bodied with tremendous purity, a layered texture, it is surprisingly light on its feet. This brilliant example of terrific winemaking is one of the stars of the appellation in 2001.
