The 1999 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru from Bertrand Ambroise, here served from magnum, was showing well. It offers an engaging flinty bouquet that is not unlike a Chablis in style, quite reserved and focused. The palate is almost the opposite, much more flamboyant with candied, slightly peachy fruit, well balanced with well-judged acidity maintaining freshness and poise on the finish. It actually appeared to gain more harmony as it opened in the glass. Very fine. Tasted November 2016.

Hints of toast can be detected in the deep, rich, white fruit-dominated aromas of the 1999 Corton-Charlemagne. This concentrated, broad, juicy, medium-bodied wine has outstanding depth and a powerful, mineral-dominated flavor profile. It is pure, detailed, well-delineated, and finishes with a long, lemon-flavored finish. Drink it over the next 6-7 years. Wine Advocate.February, 2001
