The 2011 Cantenac Brown has an open bouquet with more red fruit than the 2012: raspberry and wild strawberry laced with pressed flowers. Maybe it comes across a little monotone compared to the 2012? The palate has good depth and grip, quite sinewy for this vintage, and is slightly rustic towards the saline/seaweed-tinged finish that just cuts away a little swiftly. Drink over the next six to eight years. Tasted at the Cantenac Brown vertical at the château.
Bright crimson. Graphite nose. Sweet, intense fruit on the nose. Pretty solid but better relatively than many vintages from this property. (JR)
Ultra-ripe damson fruit. Smells a little porty. Porty and super-bitter on the palate. Hard tannins. (JH)
About the producer
Tristan le Lous purchased this Third Growth in 2019, keeping on José Sanfins on as director. There has been significant work in the vineyards here, with a sustainable, organic approach across the 48 hectares.
