The 1990 Certan-Giraud, which ultimately became "Hosanna," put in a quite brilliant performance. At 29 years of age, it remains fresh and vital on the nose, offering scents of rose petals and black tar; more cedar scents develop with time. These aromatics are very refined. The palate is underpinned by fine tannins and quite fabulous balance. The truffle-tinged fruit guides the drinker to Pomerol, and there is a lovely sour cherry note on the finish. This was served blind and I was shocked when its identity was unveiled. Tasted blind in London.

This is the property that has been Hosanna since 1999. Very dark garnet. Fragrant and very sweet, charming and polished without heaviness. (JR)
The 1990, rather diffuse and fruity from the barrel, is markedly more impressive from the bottle. Rich, dense, and well-endowed, it is an opulent, chewy, loaded wine that reminds me of the 1982. Consume it over the next 10-12 years.
