Bright straw-yellow. Musky white peach, nut oils and gingery spices on the nose. Silky, stony and concentrated; ripe yet dry, conveying an impression of solid dry extract. The fullest of these premier crus but shows very good stone and menthol reserve. Classic refined Chassagne wine with a long, bright finish. Very strong for this cuvee.

Fontaine-Gagnard's 2011 Chassagne-Montrachet La Maltroie has a lovely immediacy to it. Like all of the 2011s here, the Maltroie is soft, open and accessible. Apricot, peach and floral notes meld together on the close. I would prefer to drink the Maltroie over the next few years given its mid-weight structure.

This is more exotic still with its aromas of pineapple, dried apricot and peach. There is a lovely restrained quality to the beautifully well-detailed medium weight flavors that possess a fine sense of vibrancy where they finish with impeccably good balance. This markedly dry effort lacks only a bit of depth to be at the next level and if more is added with bottle age my score may be on the conservative side. Tasted: Jun 11, 2013. Drink: 2016+
