Bavard’s grapes. Magnum. Deep gold. Very sweet, rich and massive. Fully evolved and classic but less freshness than many Mâconnais wines from Guffens. Really pretty nice but not nicer than some of his Mâconnais wines. Lightly beery. Solid. ‘ I don’t piss in the Bâtard, to make it better than the other ones.’ (JR)

Very strange... Jean-Marie Guffens who made this wine is after all a prankster and I am almost tempted to think this wine is a joke. It has a pink tinge. It's coarse. It's fat. It's hot and formless. It shows every sign of a winemaker who is simply not trying – even though there is clearly great fruit underneath. If this is a joke, it's not funny – specially at this sort of price. (JR)

Aromas of honeysuckle, flint and smoke. Rich, fat and youthful, but not yet revealing its personality. Has sound acidity for the year. Finishes with very good length but does not appear to be in the same class as the '99.
