Score 93/100 · Drink 2003-2010, Pierre Rovani, Apr 2003

The 2001 Batard-Montrachet offers mouth-watering aromas of white chocolate-covered peaches. Lush, creamy, sexy, and spicy, this is a layered, thick, satin-textured wine that is crammed with fruit. Powerful waves of over-ripe white peaches, poached pears, spiced apples, and candied apricots can be found in its sensual, chewy personality. This dense, concentrated, hedonist's Batard should be drunk over the next 7 years. Importer: Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC; tel. (202) 832-9083

Subtle aromas of pineapple, smoke and minerals. Dense, spicy and concentrated, with excellent lift. Flavor dominated by pineapple. But quite closed and uncompromisingly dry today, and much less showy than the Truffieres. Will it be better in the long run?
