Score 88-92/100 · Drink 2005, Pierre Rovani, Feb 1999

The Batard-Montrachet displays passion fruit, mangoes, and over-ripe pear aromas. Reminiscent of Chardonnay jelly, this is a hugely thick, hyper-dense, and full-bodied wine revealing an extraordinary panoply of cherries, raspberries, and tropical fruits. Its power, texture, and weight are extremely impressive. Might it be too intense and/or over the top? Drink it over the next 4-6 years. Deep, nutty aromas of beurre blanc, dried fruits and smoky oak. Large-scaled, sweet and palate-saturating; impressively thick but not as complex or bright as the Chevalier. Conveys an impression of rather low acidity. Seems a bit soft on the aftertaste for a Batard, without quite the acidity to extend the fruit. One hopes this wine will not be bottled too late.
