No Merlot in the grand vin for the first time ever.  This is more reticent than the Pavillon Rouge, though there is some clear depth and power hiding underneath.  A hint of cream is followed by soft, focussed Margaux fruit in the mouth.  And the Margaux class shows.  There is density here and a weight and depth of fruit.  Power and elegance.  The class of the terroir is clear.  Not the knockout punch of a 2009 or 2010 but this is very, very impressive.  Serious wine and there is a Burgundian edge to it.  Lovely. Joss Fowler, FINE+RARE, April 2014.

Medium garnet in color, the 2013 Chateau Margaux offers notions of unsmoked cigars, dusty soil, and potpourri over a core of blackcurrant pastilles and spice cake. The medium-bodied palate is elegantly styled and refreshing, with loads of soft-spoken earthy layers, finishing spicy.

The 2013 Château Margaux has a fragrant nose with pressed iris, clove, bay leaf and light leafy scents, well-defined and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with a very slight greenness on the entry. With moderate weight and fine acidity, the finish feels rather simple. Maybe Palmer has the upper hand in this off-vintage? Tasted at Bordeaux Index's 10-Year On tasting.
