The 2013 Lafon-Rochet, picked late according to Basile Tesseron, has a simple bouquet with rose petal-tinged red fruit, light but clean. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine acidity and a slight chewiness towards the finish, but I appreciate the length considering the growing season. Tasted at the Lafon-Rochet vertical at the property.

70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot. Blueish mid crimson. A little sweaty on the nose. Light and juicy but pretty simple. Pinched on the end. Just so simple. Maybe not overdone but still not a delight. I really don’t think this is a vintage worthy of Bordeaux prices! (JR)

Tasted blind. Deep garnet. Leafily fragrant. Juicy, elegant and fresh. Plays to the vintage. (JH)

The 2013 Lafon Rochet has a light but fresh blackberry and briary-scented bouquet with just a touch of tobacco. The palate is a touch brittle on the entry, but fresh with a keen line of acidity, with a short, rather one-dimensional finish that falls one or two steps short of my expectations from barrel. Drink this over the next 4-8 years.
