Good medium red. Aromas of purple fruits, mint, violet and mocha; showing less torrefaction than the young 2012. Juicy, sharply delineated black fruit and violet flavors benefit from an excellent sugar/acid balance. Crunchy wine with lovely cut and penetration and a brisk, long finish. I'd give it two or three years in the cellar. This should make a terrific bottle of Marsannay.

Bright red-ruby. Reticent perfume of small red berries, violet and licorice. Then sweet and pliant in the mouth, showing more red than black fruit character and a hint of menthol. Finishes with broad, fine-grained tannins, a repeating suggestion of licorice and good energy.

Noticeable wood toast surrounds the otherwise ripe, pretty and agreeably fresh aromas of red berry fruit, plum and earth nuances. There is good richness to the round and delicious medium-bodied flavors that possess better depth though there is generous oak that reappears on the balanced and again, mildly rustic finish. While I often quite like this wine, the wood in 2011 is more than I can recommend. Tasted: Jan 15, 2014. Drink: 2019+
