Tasted blind. Inky with a rim that looks a bit developed. Damsons on toast. Riper fruit flavours but pretty tough tannins. Hard finish. (JH)

The 2013 Lascombes has more ripeness on the nose than many of its Margaux peers, though it is missing a sense of detail or terroir expression. The palate is medium-bodied with hard tannin on the entry, saline in the mouth, but it feels clipped and brusque on its finish. I tried to look for redeeming features here. I'll keep looking once it has a year or two in bottle.

Distinct chocolate nose with a smoky note and pristine black cherry fruit. Clay-textured tannin with plenty of grip and persistence. It has the lightness of body of 2013, but much more flavour range that you might expect, and the emerging complexity is promising. (RH)
