FINE+RARE, Aug 2014

Notably pale in colour. This has citrus fruit and a delicate floral character. Medium-bodied and for the moment restrained in style. Very young at the moment but lots of substance here.

Yellow-golden in color, the 2012 Gewürztraminer Heimbourg is the last that had been produced before all the Traminer vines were pulled out due to Esca (a fungal disease that killed up to 8% of the vines every year and is not only that dramatic in Alsace, but in other European regions too). Olivier Humbrecht says the 2012 is one of the best Heimbourgs in recent years. Indeed it is a rich and very elegant, aromatic, and full-bodied wine with tension and a lingering salinity. Well structured by dancing salt and grippy tannins, this beautifully balanced wine reveals a great purity and balance, as well as complexity and aging potential.
