Medium red. Rather closed but pure on the nose, hinting at dark berries, plum, mint and menthol. Then sweet but firm in the mouth, with flavors of minerals, earth, game and menthol. Seems low in acidity for the vintage, but finishes with firm tannic spine and spicy persistence. Powerful but not at all rustic.

Aromatically elegant and quite pure with plenty of complexity to the dark pinot fruit aromas that lead to big yet fine and intense, relatively powerful flavors that are entirely serious. This is quite rich with much more sophisticated tannins than is typical for young Clos de Vougeot and this is really quite an impressive effort and sufficiently approachable that it could be drunk now with the right food.

Red-ruby. Cassis, violet, licorice and bitter chocolate on the nose. Fat, sweet and expressive, with new-oaky flavors of black raspberry and chocolate. As is typical at this address, this has the highest pH of these 2002s. A very open style, conveying an impression of low acidity. Finishes with chocolatey oak and good but not outstanding length. Meunier planned to bottle this early.
