Still a youthful purple color, the 2005 Wolf Blass Shiraz Platinum Label, aged for 20 months in new and one-year-old French barrels, delivers a fantastic array of spiced berry fruits, saddle leather, crushed flowers, and subtle chocolate on the nose. Beautifully complex and nuanced aromatically, and just starting to show a smidge of maturity, the wine is medium to full bodied on the palate, possessing an impressively balanced, almost elegant profile, juicy acidity, and a long, classically dry finish. I’m a fan as this has real character; it’s drinking very well at the moment, but should continue to evolve gracefully for another decade.

Score 92/100 · Drink 2013-2025, Jay S Miller, Wine Advocate, Feb 2009

The 2005 Shiraz Platinum Label sourced from the Barossa Valley spent 20 months in new and one-year-old French oak. The aromatics reveal pain grille, pencil lead, espresso, blueberry, sausage notes, and chocolate. This leads to a full-bodied wine with gobs of savory, spicy black and blue fruit flavors, a smooth texture, and exceptional depth. This lengthy wine can be enjoyed now but will evolve for 4-6 years and be at its best from 2013 to 2025. Importer: Foster Wine Estates Americas, Napa, CA; tel. (707) 259-4500
