The 2013 Le Corton Grand Cru has an intriguing bouquet with red berry fruit, licorice and, somehow, a little Antipodean in style. The palate is medium-bodied with grain tannins, rustic and ferrous, with a touch of dryness on the bitter finish. The Corton-Charlemagne tasted alongside seems much more successful this vintage, and I would drink bottles shortly.

Not the deepest colour, while the nose is quite elegant. So too is the wine on the palate with an impressive tensile strength to match. Light red berries and roses on the nose, then a darker touch at the back, even a liquorice note. Quite harmonious, with considerable length.
Moderately saturated bright red. Lovely perfumed scents of raspberry and cherry accented by flowers and minerals. Juicy, pure and precise but tightly wound and backward, with redcurrant fruit lifted by treble notes of flowers and blood orange. More about perfume than flesh, this very elegant Corton finishes with firm, ripe tannins and lovely floral length and lift. By the way, the finished wine shows virtually none of the gamey, Syrah-like notes I found in a barrel sample in November of 2014.

Bouchard Père & Fils is one of Burgundy’s oldest and most established wine producers. Founded in 1731 by Michel Bouchard, it is the largest vineyard owner in the Côte d’Or with 130 hectares of vines.
