Good full red with an unfiltered appearance. Expressive, highly nuanced nose offers black raspberry, smoke, minerals, dark chocolate, animal fur and olive tapenade. Big, broad, generous and sweet but with terrific mineral-driven salinity and a dusty impression of extract. Chewy but suave too. Wonderfully full and sweet on the end, with firm tannins totally buffered by fruit. Quite suave for Nuits-Saint-Georges and not at all austere, but this chewy wine is nonetheless built to age.

The 2013 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru les Vaucrains has a precise bouquet that is more floral and more expressive than the Les Saint Georges at this stage. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp chalky tannin, very good acidity and a long and persistent tensile finish. This would be my pick of the domaine's three NSG '13s based on the barrel samples. This just struts its stuff with a bit more gumption.
Good deep red. Ripe, smoky aromas of black raspberry and dark chocolate. Intensely flavored and balanced from the start, with superb depth of dark berry fruit lifted by limestone and salty minerality. Conveys a strong impression of dry extract and finishes with classy tannins and terrific length. This will be accessible young for Vaucrains but has the balance and stuffing for a graceful evolution in bottle.
