The 2013 Bourgneuf is a successful effort in this troublesome vintage. Notes of steak tartare, plums, black cherries and licorice are followed by a medium-bodied wine with an attractive saturated dark ruby/purple color. The wine’s low tannins suggest immediate drinkability.

Plenty of new oak scent on the nose here, good fruit ripeness too. Firm tannins, but they are well integrated with the acid and fruit concentration. Pure enjoyment – very luscious, quite modern and sleek. (RH)

The 2013 Bourgneuf is rich, generous and inviting, especially within the context of the vintage. Dark cherry, plum, spice, vanillin and French oak notes blossom in a resonant, expressive wine endowed with lovely depth. The 2013 isn't especially complex, but it is quite open and expressive, not to mention incredibly delicious. I expect the 2013 will be a great wine to drink in its youth. Today the oak is a bit prominent, but hopefully that won't be an issue by the time the wine arrives in the market. This is a terrific showing.
