The 2014 Villars is soft, pliant and juicy, with attractive red/purplish-hued stone fruit, spice and floral notes. Drink this succulent, inviting Fronsac over the next few years.

The Château Villars 2014 feels overripe and prune-like on the nose. The palate is sweet and rather monotone with a slightly bitter finish. It just feels flat and dour.

Dark crimson. Indistinct, low-key nose but a lot of effort seems to have been put into gentle extraction and tannin management. Perhaps this wine is almost overworked? There’s a little greenness on the finish. (JR)
