Score 84/100 · Drink 2024-2026, Neal Martin, Mar 2024

The 2014 Château du Tertre is light and lacks fruit intensity on the nose; it is just too austere. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, a little hollow and missing grip/substance. It's relatively meager on the finish. This should be broached now. Tasted non-blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting.

58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 12% Petit Verdot. Tasted blind. Shaded crimson. Edgy and lively though lightweight. Lot of life and energy here. Just don’t expect concentration. (JR)

The 2014 du Tertre has a slightly muddled bouquet with blackberry, graphite and light rose-petal scents. The palate is medium-bodied with edgy tannin, crisp and taut, but there is something sultry about this Margaux, as if it does not want to play ball at this early stage. This is just a bit opaque at the moment. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

Tasted blind. Transparent crimson. Sweet and easy and fresh but not much complexity yet. Opulent. (JR)
