More character here. Some intensity, or rather complexity, of perfume. Sweet and laid back and a hint of the Burgundian in the mouth. A touch of mocha. A soft texture and cool minerality. This is very good. Joss Fowler, FINE+RARE, April 2015.

The 2014 Le Petit Cheval has an expressive floral bouquet with hints of fruitcake and fresh date complementing the red berry fruit. I like the delineation here. The palate is medium-bodied, classic in style, well balanced with a fine line of acidity, poised with the terroir showing through nicely on the finish. Excellent. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

100% Sauvignon Blanc. Yield 27 hl/ha. 6,000 vines/ha. Harvested 11 to 16 September. Aged in 600-litre French oak barrels for 15-18 months, 50% new and 50% second fill. First vintage. Creamy, citric, waxy and sophisticated. Lovely herbal notes, but the mix of flavours on the palate is beautifully complex and engaging. The fruit is so well restrained, yet it has the distinctive structure of Sauvignon Blanc. Fine powdery texture. Layers of delicious intensity on the finish. Already three dimensional – even four, given time. (RH)

Tasted blind. Some super-ripe black cherry notes on the nose with a bit of mint. Rather Derenoncourt-like in its burgundian sweet structure! Wild and gamey. (JR)
