45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 20% Petit Verdot. 40% new oak for 12 months. Deep garnet. Pure, intense cassis aroma. The oak is more obvious here than in the 2016 in the thicker tannin texture and the chocolate flavour on the finish. Not quite as fresh as the 2016 but lots of immediate pleasure. (JH)

The 2014 Belle Vue, from the sub-appellation of Macau, has a very pure cedar and leather-tinged bouquet with well integrated new oak and a floral component, violets, from the high percentage of Petit Verdot. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, fine acidity, good weight with a plush but crisp blackberry and strawberry coulis finish. This is actually better than the bottle I tasted last year.

52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 24% Petit Verdot, 14-16 months in barrel (25% new). Deep crimson with purple rim. Attractive dusty quality to the dark fruit. Dark and savoury on the palate, with a touch of charred potato skins. Not charming at the moment but elegant and with a promising future. Dry finesse and attractive restraint. (JH)
