Score 82/100 · Drink 2016-2019, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Oct 2016

The 2014 Mongravey was showing too much chocolaty oak on the nose that deprived it of terroir expression. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin, rather rustic in style and it feels blocky on the finish. Tasted September 2016.

65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc. Barrel aged (60% new). Light vanilla aroma overlays cassis leaf. Very leafy on the palate too. Fresh and lively – and very attractive if you like the more leafy style (which I do). You might think there was more Cabernet Franc in here than there is. Dry finesse to the tannins. Refreshing and dry on the finish but mouth-watering. (JH)

This has some toasty oak, but the fruit wins out hands down, and there’s a lovely balance between it, the full, moderately dry tannins and the freshness. Good length and aging potential, too! Feb 2017, www.jamessuckling.com
