The 2011 Barolo Campè Vürsù shows huge balsam intensity with a citrusy twist of candied lemon zest and dried apricot. I liked this wine as much as the 2012 vintage, but for very different reasons. This is a rounder and more exuberant expression that delivers fleshly richness and an important sense of textural heft. You can't mistake this wine for anything other than Nebbiolo from a warm growing season.

La Spinetta's 2011 Barolo Campè is laced with dark red stone fruits, mint, French oak, sweet herbs and licorice. Overall, this is a fairly restrained style from La Spinetta. Today, the 2011 is mostly about racy, primary fruit. It will be interesting to see if the 2011 develops more complexity over time. Today, the 2011 needs time to emerge from what appears to be an awkward period based on where the wine was a few months back. My overall impression remains unchanged, though. The 2011 is built more on finesse than pure power relative to most prior vintages here.
The 2011 Barolo Campè is an incredibly silky, polished wine. Freshly cut flowers, spices, mint, cinnamon and raspberries are all laced together in the glass. In most vintages, the Campè is quite overt, but for now what comes through in the 2011 is more about finesse. It looks like the team made all the picking decisions at the right time. This is a terrific showing from La Spinetta.
