Bright medium red. Deep, brooding aromas of medicinal black cherry, cassis and spices complicated by notes of menthol and bitter chocolate. Suave, smooth and lightly saline, with brisk acidity framing the nicely concentrated dark berry, licorice and bitter chocolate flavors. Plenty of tannins and a slightly peppery finish call for some patience.

(these vines produced the largest crop in 2013, at 40 hectoliters per hectare): Good dark red. Pepper, spice and licorice notes suggest modest ripeness. Quite tight and a bit tart on the palate, without the stuffing to support its serious tannins. The large load of grapes took a long time to ripen, said Meunier, who picked this parcel on October 12 at 11.1% potential alcohol and chaptalized the wine to 12.3%.

The 2013 Nuits Saint Georges les Fleurières, which is also matured in 30% new oak and underwent a protracted malolactic fermentation, has a potent blackberry and raspberry nose. The palate has a vitamin-like purity, fine tannin and a very sleek and seductive finish. This is very composed but again, I would have preferred the new oak to be dialed down a notch.
