More up-front and voluptuous, the 2011 Cotes du Roussillon Villages Coume Gineste is a stunning blend of almost all Grenache (from 90-100-year-old vines) that comes from a single, higher elevation parcel planted on schist soils and aged all in demi-muid. Plum, ground herbs, sage, rosemary, tar and licorice are just some of the nuances here, and this full-bodied, decadent and layered effort has tons of hedonistic appeal, yet stays remarkably elegant and seamless, with ultra-fine tannin and serious length. The most approachable of the lineup, it, nevertheless, has brilliant backend structure and concentration, and will have 15+ years of total longevity. Apr 2014, www.robertparker.com
