The hot-vintage 2011 Barolo Brunate is not at the top of its game, but it does deliver plenty of dark fruit and succulent spice. I did like this wine better than the Barolo La Serra in this vintage.

La Morra. Lightish ruby. Fragrant, almost a little floral, very inviting. A light peppery spice lifting it further in the glass. Tight, fresh and quite constrained on the palate after the perfume of the nose. Lovely freshness. (JH)

La Morra. Mid ruby with narrow orange rim. Full and almost forceful strawberry nose. Lovely, ripe strawberry palate with real chew and bite. Slightly dry on the finish for the moment, but this is only a matter of time. (WS)

Mid rust colour. Some intensity and real interest on the nose. Sweet start and some richness combined with autumn mulch. Bone-dry finish – pretty uncompromising but it should make great old bones. (JR)
