Score 92+/100 · Drink 2023-2035, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2016

(vinified with 40% whole clusters and aged in 80% new oak): Good medium red. High-pitched aromas and flavors of raspberry, rose petal and crushed-stone minerality. Juicy, savory and tight; much less open in the early going than the Petits Monts but not at all dry. Finishes savory, firm and very long. Ultimately a more profound and complex wine but this will need longer in the cellar. Forey described this wine as "round and balanced" but I find it a bit closed; it may already be shutting down in the bottle.

(60% new oak): Good medium red. Reticent black cherry and sweet oak scents are lifted by pepper and herb nuances. At once creamy and sappy, with saline, soil-driven flavors of cherry, spice and graphite nicely framed by harmonious ripe acidity. Tightens up on the long, complex finish, with an element of iron building in the glass.
