Score 87/100 · Drink 2014-2019, Robert Parker, Apr 2014

Consistently one of the better Cru Bourgeois, Belle-Vue’s 2011 possesses a dark ruby/plum color, abundant fruit, good purity and ripeness, a Margaux-like finesse as well as floral notes, soft tannins and medium body. Drink this sleeper of the vintage over the next 3-5 years. The blend in 2011 is 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot and a whopping 23% Petit Verdot.

46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 23% Petit Verdot. Notably dark, intense crimson. Almost opulent on the nose and on the palate the intensity is managed without recourse to sweetness. This is definitely Médoc! With well managed tannins. This could be one of the great buys. Average price £12 according to winesearcher.com and widely distributed. Very classical and with a long future. Really quite distinguished and as good as many classed growths. I wonder whether the 23% Petit Verdot played a part? GV (JR)

Dark crimson. Light nose but vaguely fresh and leafily aromatic. Good balance even if not intense. Freshness on the finish. Not a very long-distance runner but some dry tannins on the end. (JR)
