(made with two-thirds whole clusters and aged in 50% new oak): Medium red, less dark than the Rugiens. The nose offers distinctly blacker fruits than the estate's wines from the Côte de Beaune, along with hints of licorice and bitter chocolate. Slightly peppery and uncompromisingly dry but with good texture and inner-mouth perfume. Tannins saturate the front teeth. A bit youthfully tough but finishes with very good length.
The 2014 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Aux Thorey is two-thirds whole cluster this year. It has a beautiful nose that is very pure and elegant, very detailed with mineral tones suffusing the bright red fruit. The palate has the same lucidity as the aromatics with fine tannin, wonderful balance and captivating, edgy fruit on the structured finish. This is an impressive Aux Thorey.
