Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, Domaine de l'Arlot's 2014 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Clos de l'Arlot has a fresh raspberry preserve and cranberry-scented bouquet with impressive purity and class. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin, slightly darker fruit than I was expecting yet very well balanced, with hints of black tea and a dash of black pepper toward the finish. Maybe just a little New World-like in style, but that is a moot point—a joy. Tasted September 2017.

(100% destemmed): Good medium red.. Ripe strawberry and spices on the nose, along with sexy hints of stone fruits. A silky, pliant wine with lovely texture and depth, not to mention more material and backbone than the Petit Arlot. Flavors of red berries, spices and underbrush are a bit less high-pitched than those of the Petit Arlot but this wine still comes across as fruity and nicely delineated. Finishes with nicely ripe tannins.
(this and the following wines were still in barrels in December; vinified with 45% whole clusters): Bright, full red. Alluring aromas of redcurrant, raspberry, spices and underbrush. In a plush, supple style, with the red fruit flavors accented by pepper and herbs. Ripe, fairly deep wine with noteworthy delicacy. Finishes with dusty, ripe tannins and very good length.
