Dark red-ruby. Highly complex nose melds aromas of blackberry, boysenberry, licorice, game, woodsmoke and musky minerality, plus a hint of dark chocolate. Utterly seamless wine with terrific mineral pungency and lift to its dark berry flavors, along with a peppery suggestion of stems. This may not have quite the sweetness of the 2015 but it's classically dry, soil-inflected and very long.

Quite dramatic on the nose. Then so chiselled on the palate that it’s not that easy to taste now. Ambitious. (JR)

Bright ruby-red. Knockout nose combines blackberry, black raspberry, wild strawberry, pepper, licorice and menthol. Dense, sappy and concentrated, conveying an impression of power and a lovely balance of sweet fruit and fresh acidity. Finishes firm and persistent, with a black pepper accent. Jean-Nicolas Méo told me that he vinified this wine with about 12% whole clusters to give it more structure and length and to counter its old-viney sweetness.

(Outstanding)<br /> An impressively densely fruited nose is also marvelously spicy with its attractively complex array of cassis, violet, warm earth and game hints. There is outstanding richness to the concentrated medium-bodied flavors that are blessed with plenty of structure buffering dry extract that pushes the tannins to the background on the firm but velvety finish where a trace of Nuits rusticity creeps in just as the length is dying away. Good stuff if you have the patience to wait.
