The Cuvelier family's 2015 Côte du Baleau is a very pretty wine. Sweet red cherry, tobacco, herbs, smoke and earthy notes are pushed forward. The tannins here have always been tough to domesticate, but in 2015, the wine possesses lovely richness and overall pliancy. This is an attractive, mid-weight Saint-Émilion that should drink well with minimal cellaring. This is one of the more restrained wines of the year (in relative terms) in Saint-Émilion. The 2015 Cote de Baleau has a refined and intense bouquet with precise black and red fruit, seamlessly integrated oak and a sense of terroir coming through. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, well-judged acidity and plenty of finesse and poise towards the finish. This is such a pretty Saint Emilion that you almost overlook its length and persistence. It is one of the best wines that I have tasted from the estate. Apr 2016, www.robertparker.com
