80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc. Aged 18 months in oak barrels (40% new). Garnet hue with a touch of evolution at the rim. Riper and plusher than the 2016 with a more ‘solar’ edge. Palate supple and round, the tannins just a little chewy on the finish. (JL)

(Consultant Stéphane Derononcourt's home farm.) Magnum. Tasted blind. Very dark with soft tannins and lots of easy-to-appreciate sweet fruit. Slightly inky finish but every effort has been made to make an approachable young wine that is recognisably bordeaux. Well done for the money. (JR)

The 2015 Domaine de l'A is one of the more flamboyant, extroverted wines in the Côtes de Castillon this year. Super-ripe black cherry, plum, licorice, mocha, espresso and tobacco infuse this sumptuous, racy wine. The 2015 is a stellar wine from Stéphane and Christiane Derenoncourt. Domaine de l'A is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, of which 20% has whole clusters. Yields were just 30 hectoliters per hectare.

A Stéphane Derenoncourt wine. Juicy and sweet. Round and very friendly. For relatively early drinking. (JR)
