The 2014 Larmande has a strange, high-toned and very one-dimensional nose with boiled sweet notes. Lacks definition. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly dry tannins. This Saint-Émilion is missing freshness and has a slightly hot finish. I would rather re-taste this wine as it showed much better six years earlier. Tasted non-blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting.

The 2014 Larmande has a relatively backward bouquet with cedar and tobacco scented black fruit, almost Left Bank in style. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin on the entry, firm with good backbone, sappy with a light marine/brine influence towards the finish. This has good potential but it needs 3 or 4 years in bottle. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

Tasted blind. Mid crimson. Fragrant and nicely composed. Fresh fruit and not trying too hard, though the tannins are a bit drying on the end. (JR)

The 2014 Larmande has a broody nose of black and red berry fruit; there are touches of leather and sandalwood emerging with time and imparting complexity and personality. The palate is medium-bodied with quite angular tannin. There is a keen thread of acidity with just a touch of sour cherry towards the pastille-like finish. It might lack a little length, but I appreciate the tension and energy in this Saint Emilion.
