The 2015 De Chambrun is medium garnet-purple in color with red and black currants aromas with an earthy undercurrent and hints of black olives and dusty soil. Medium-bodied, firm and chewy in the mouth with just enough fruit, it has a pleasant herbal lift to the finish.

The 2015 Château de Chambrun is a Merlot-dominated cuvee that includes a splash of Cabernet Franc and was bottled unfined and unfiltered. It possesses lots of plum fruits, roasted herbs, jus de viande (aka au jus or the juices given off by meat as it’s cooked), and black licorice characteristics in a ripe, hedonistic, pedal-to-the-metal style that drinks well above its humble price point. Drink it anytime over the coming decade.

The 2015 de Chambrun offers only modest depth and complexity, as the tannins completely dominate over the fruit. This is a solid but not exciting wine to drink young.

Juicy black fruit and a light olive paste character. Dry but smooth tannic texture, giving a subtle but definite grip. Floral and lifted on the finish, giving more aromatic range than the nose suggested. Surely more to come with age? (RH)
