The 2014 Old Patch Shiraz is totally different from the 2018 tasted next to it. It is full, concentrated and succulent; where the 2018 is delicate, the 2014 is rich and powerful. It is a little meaty and possessed of a bone broth/umami edge. But it is fresh and lovely, starting to evolve. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

An almost perfect growing season, one of the best in recent memory. A long, dry season without any extreme heat meant all of the fruit was in pristine condition. pH 3.44, TA 7.24 g/l. Bright dense crimson. Rather claret-like in build. Sweet and rich. Firm structure. Pretty severe finish. Very youthful and a bit severe! But there’s underlying sweetness and a certain candy quality.
