Score 87/100 · Drink 2014-2020, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Aug 2014

The 1999 Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Gaudichots continues to offer decent intensity on the nose with mint and fennel infusing the bright red fruit, although there is just a touch of over-extraction evident. The palate is medium-bodied with dense, quite sinewy tannins. There is good substance here as you would expect for a 1999, although it is missing some finesse and delineation on the finish. Drink now-2020. Tasted May 2014.

Medium ruby. Nuanced aromas of raspberry, Oriental spices, espresso and mint. Powerful, closed and severe in the mouth; boasts strong fruit but comes across as rather dry today. Finishes with huge tannins but also very persistent dark fruit flavors. My score assumes that this wine will benefit from another four or five months in barrel.
