Score 92+/100 · Drink 2026-2038, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jan 2018

(13.6% alcohol; 80% new oak): Healthy dark red. Aromas of cherry, licorice and dried herbs, plus an obvious element of oak spices. Very rich and generous but youthfully imploded and a bit medicinal, with serious dusty tannins currently shutting down the finish. In a distinctly more tannic style than the Echézeaux but there's also excellent underlying sweetness here. Lay this one down.

(90% new oak): Bright red-ruby. Spicy aromas of black raspberry and violet are complicated by a wild leathery nuance. Large-scaled, seamless and rich; a distinctly pliant Clos Vougeot in a very broad, ripe, classically dry style. Finishes with substantial but ripe, dusty tannins that will require cellaring.

This too is moderately oaked with aromas of wild red berries, newly turned earth, forest floor and a hint of lavender. There is outstanding richness to the overtly powerful, concentrated and mouth coating flavors that conclude in a youthfully austere, backward and ultra-serious finish. I wouldn’t even consider opening one of these before it has at least 10 years of age. Dec 2016, www.burghound.com
