Score 91/100 · Drink 2023-2031, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jan 2018

(12.6% alcohol; 50% new oak): Healthy dark red. Ripe, minerally aromas of red cherry, brown spices, mocha, vanilla and flowers. Not a particularly fleshy wine but juicy and sweet, showing lovely energy and cut. Offers an attractive combination of intense red fruits and power. Not overly concentrated (the yield here was 35 hectoliters per hectare) but the longest of these 2015s to this point by a clear margin. The tannins are smooth.

(80% new oak): Bright, dark red. Nose dominated by black cherry liqueur, with complicating notes of blackberry and violet. Quite backward in the middle palate despite its richness and sweetness, conveying a youthfully medicinal quality to its savory flavors of kirsch , licorice, chocolate and roast coffee. Finishes with broad, dusty, very ripe tannins and an almost candied sweetness.

(from vines planted between 1937 and 1942). A pungent nose combines notes of wood, spice, red currant and plenty of earth character. The rich and relatively full-bodied flavors exhibit a subtle minerality on the powerful and delicious finish where the wood telegraphed by the nose reemerges. Dec 2016, www.burghound.com
